travel and photography is one beautiful combination! this past summer i traveled to brazil to study brazilian culture and capoeira. for those of your that don't know, capoeira is a brazilian martial arts that is sometimes referred to as dance fighting (wikipedia.org/wiki/Capoeira). capoeira incorporates martial arts with music, dance, and acrobatics (www.ithaca.edu/capoeira/pages/history.html). it was such a powerful and moving experience to see how fully committed and passionate these capoeiristas are (not to mention they are unbelievable athletes)...and that is what i set out to capture in my photos. sports photography presents a great many challenges always inspiring me to come back for more!
i had 4 images from my brazil trip on display in november at the ariodante gallery in new orleans (www.ariodantegallery.com). january 9, 2009, the completed show (15 total images) will be on display at the Grupo Maculele New Orleans Academy for a one-night exhibition from 6-9 pm (bestofneworleans.com).

Almond bowl in Chico Ca
Sunday, October 19, 2008

In Chico CA there are 2 high schools. They are always trying to out due the other. They always think their school is better than the other. So when they meet on the football field it is a big deal in the little town of Chico. In a small town with a population of around 64,000 it is estimated that 6000 people showed up to this event. Pleasant Valley the usual victor of this event was defeated this year by Chico High. It's always a fun time shooting this game.
